London : W. Nicoll, 1769 A good copy of a very scarce work, originally issued as part of a two volume work called 'The City Remembrancer'. This consisted of 3 books, with separate title pages and pagination, on the Great Plague, Fire and Storm of London. The title page for the 'Remembrancer' states that the source material for the work is Dr Gideon Harvey's papers. Dr Harvey ?1640-?1700 became the king's 'Physician to the Tower'. He is known for a variety of medical works (and for using his writing to discredit other physicians). This copy has been rebound by Bath Municipal Reference Library, and is in a near fine buckram cloth binding with gilt title, reference number and date to spine. The internal endpaper joints are reinforced and there is the armorial library bookplate to the fep, together with some reference numbers at the top. There are no other library markings. The binder has introduced a new front blank and has probably misbound the Introduction, which should… Leer más

Descripción:
1689 English Reformation Burnet Henry VIII Elizabeth I Portraits RARE Latin ed

As a response to Nicolas Sanders attack on the English Reformation, Gilbert Burnet published a rebuttal that covered the reign of Henry VIII, the second volume covers the reign of Elizabeth I. The work saw such success and popularity that his reputation was enhanced, and the English Parliament gave thanks to Burnet after the completion of Burnet.

Burnet gives evidences of the difficulties and challenges that the Church of England faced against Catholics and the government. Burnet defended his doctrines in this work and "confirmed them in another sermon, in which he also made some reflections on Bishops" that were impactful in English reforms. (Burnet, HRCE, Book III, 307).

This Latin edition was published in 1689 and is considerably rarer than the earlier English printings. It also features 16 impressive copper engraved portraits.

London: Harmsworth Bros., Limited, 1898-1899. [Literary Magazine] FIRST APPEARANCE. Octavo (25 x 18cm), pp.viii; 672. With black and white in-text illustrations throughout. Publisher's DELUXE BINDING of leather-backed dark green boards with extra gilt decoration to spine, tan endpapers, edges marbled (the standard binding was mid-green cloth. Contents clean, joints slightly rubbed. Near fine. This early tale of adventure is WSC's only short story, and together with the novel 'Savrola' constitutes Churchill's entire fictional oeuvre. The story did not reappear until after the author's death, (June 1965, 'The Argosy'), nearly seven decades after the first publication. This issue also contains the short story 'A Princess In Green and Tan' by Arthur Preston, featuring six illustrations from a young Arthur Rackham, drawn very much in the popular Sidney Paget (Sherlock Holmes) style, familiar to readers of the rival 'Strand Magazine', as well as two stories by Richard Marsh.

At the story's core, however, are three people who struggle very hard to figure out what love is and how to find it. Hulme won New Zealand's Pegasus Prize for Literature (1984) for The Bone People.
