Sobre este artículo

Toronto: Lester & Orpen Dennys, 1987. 306 pp, 9 1/2" H. Map endpapers, b&w photographs. "On the night of 12 May 1944, Major Colin Scott Dafoe, a surgeon on special assignment with Britain's SOE parachuted behind enemy lines into German-occupied Yugoslavia. His mission, code-named 'Toffee', was to provide medical aid to the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia: the ragtag band of unsung heroes who were Marshal Tito's Partisans. Dafoe, a native of Madoc, Ontario, was no stranger to combat - he had served with the British 8th Army in Tobruk and El Alamein in North Africa - but nothing he had experienced in the deserts of Africa had prepared him for the war in occupied Yugoslavia. The hit-and-run tactics of guerrilla fighting in mountainous terrain made a mockery of conventional medical procedures, but Dafoe was a devoted and ingenious surgeon who put his skills to the test time and time again, despite incredible hardship and danger. In an operating room constructed from parachutes, Dafoe operate on the maimed and wounded, who were brought from miles around to receive his expert attention." Tiny wrinkle at top of rear hinge. Dust jacket has minor rubbing, minor edge wrinkling.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good+/Very Good+.
