New York: The Paris Review, 1956. First edition. Paperwraps. Spring 1956 issue. The lengthy interview appears on appears on pp. 28-52. It's illustrated with a self portrait by Faulkner and a double-page reproduction of the first manuscript page from AS I LAY DYING appears on pp. [32-33]. Stein's 2 x 3" calling car,d printed simply "Miss Jean Stein," is paper-clipped to front cover. Stein has struck through her printed name and written "I am now working with the Paris Review" above her printed name and "and hope that you will enjoy reading it" beneath. According to the "Note on Contributors" at rear, "Jean Stein has recently been appointed Feature Editor of the Paris Review. She studied at Wellesley and the Sorbonne and has worked as an assistant to Elia Kazan in both film and stage work." Much has been made of Stein's affair with Faulkner and subsequent appointment as "Feature Editor" making this a most interesting association copy. Covers a little darkened and soiled but otherwise near fine.
