Paris: Diderot, 1772. Engraved map on laid paper, sheet size is 44.5cm x 25cm. Not coloured. Fresh, clean copy with original folds. At upper right: "Suppl. Car. 10". A map based on Capt. Cluny's mythical voyage, created for Diderot's great Encyclopedie (1772). The map depicts North America, the Arctic, and a supposed NW Passage. At least two varieties of this map exist (no known priority), of which this is the one with "les 7 Isles" above the map's border at the upper right.
