Chronologically the final of five volumes in the Patternist sequence of novels. First edition, stated, with correct "G24" gutter code on p.185. Octavo, 8.5 x 5.75 in. 186pp. Gray vinyl boards, black spine lettering; in dust jacket. Spine ends and bottoms of boards lightly rubbed; bottom corners lightly bumped; the usual speckled purple remainder-spray on base of textblock. In an unclipped ("$5.95") jacket with a few short closed tears, a small chip to fore-edge of front flap hinge, moderate rubbing and a few tiny chips at spine ends and tips. Near fine in a very good or better jacket.
Sinopsis
Patternmaster is Octavia Butler's first published novel. It is the fourth book chronologically in Butler's Patternmaster series . Wild Seed (1980) , Mind of my Mind (1977), and Clay's Ark (1984) follow. Another novel, Survivor (1978), was part of the series, but Butler later disowned the novel and declined to have it reprinted. Central to the series are Patternists - people with telepathic powers, ruled by a head Patternmaster who can heal and destroy. In Patternmaster, the son of the ruler, Coransee, will stop at nothing to get the throne, even killing his brother. The novel is set in the distant future, and the Patternists are the dominant race, set apart from Clayarks, who are 'diseased' and animalistic, and another mute race that is used as slaves.
