Strand's specificity was to work with complete sensitivity to the spirit of place, to the current of life to understand the dignity and substance not ordinarily visible. Additional text by Leo Hurwitz, Alfred Stieglitz, Helmut Gernsheim, Harold Clurman, Van Deren Coke, Henry McBride, Lola Ridge, Nancy Newhall, Elizabeth McCausland, Edwin Rolfe and David Alfaro Siqueiros.
