Philadelphia: American Friends Service Committee, 1923. First Edition. Very good. First edition; 9 x 3 3/4; pp. 1-20; light-brown wraps, printed in dark brown; two faded stamps of the California Branch of the American Friends Service Committee; a few creases; a bit of rubbing to tips of spine; very good condition. Published from personal experiences of Quaker relief workers from the American Friends Service Committee (a religious society established in 1917), the booklet relieved the horrors of the great Russian Famine of 1921 and 1922. Killing an estimated 5 million people, it was felt the worst in the regions of the Ural and Volga rivers. Robert W. Dunn (1895 - 1977) was an author and political activist and Jessica Smith was a secretary at the Soviet Embassy in Washington, DC and and editor of Soviet Russia Today.
