Sobre este artículo

Cambridge, MA: HOUGHTON MIFFLIN & COMPANY, 1900. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Charles E Brock. Book plate for Frances Dobbins. This is Volume 1 of a two book series. This book has toning in the gutter area top and bottom. Looks like moisture from the original glue used in manufacture. Otherwise pages are clean and bright. Covers are green with bright gold gilt in covers and spine. Decorative Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Brock, Charles E (illustrator). 3rd Edition. 3rd edition in a format not dissimilar to the Dent English Idylls series, reprint, 8vo, 174pp, line illustrations by Charles E Brock, bottle-green cloth sumptuously lettered and decorated gilt with thistle and rose motif border, all edges gilt; previous owner's book plate on front pastedown; a clean bright example with gilt intact and undiminished in luster; certainly good Copy. Kate Douglas Wiggin (September 28, 1856 - August 24, 1923) was an American children's author and educator. She was born in Philadelphia, and was of Welsh descent. She started the first free kindergarten in San Francisco in 1878 (the ""Silver Street Free Kindergarten""). With her sister in the 1880s she also established a training school for kindergarten teachers. For a time, she lived in Buxton, Maine, which inspired her book (and later play) The Old Peabody Pew. She is now mainly known as a writer of children's books, the best known being The Birds' Christmas Carol (1887) and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1903). Charles E Brock of course was an illustrator of great renown and popularity that has endured until today. This volume is a perfect marriage of talents made all the more successful by the fine example of book production common around the turn of the last century Size: 8vo - over 7¾"" - 9¾"" tall. Oversized or heavy volume, additional shipping charges will apply. Please ask for additional photos prior to purchasing. We are happy to send additional photos.
