Good + Slip-cased volume in red cloth with white leatherette spine, gilt titles and beautiful gilt-stamped cover illustration of a woman with arms raised and flowing gold hair, "17.XI" in gilt below the illustration. Corners bumped and a bit of soiling/darkening to spine cap and spine label. Owner's bookplate on front pastedown, otherwise a clean, solid text. Slipcase faded and with much wear to corners and edges - good only. A fascinating volume detailing the student demonstrations of October 28, 1939 in Occupied Czechoslovakia during which one student wass killed and a total of 16 casualties were reported. Some 3500 people were arrested. Also detailed is the November 15 demonstration during martyr Jan Opletal's funeral procession which prompted the Nazis to close all Czech colleges and inter thousands of Czech students and professers in the concentration camps. 155 pp., unique drawings at chapter heads and an unpaginated photo section at rear detailing the students and faculty who were martyred by the Germans. Text in Czech. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
