"A description of life in Persia as observed by the author during two visits extending over a period of about three years in the last decade of the 19th and first decade of the 20th centuries. The book includes chapters on religion, government, travel, country life, Persian men, Persian women and the city of Mashdad." (GHANI, p. 362.) The author's brother was the diplomat and scholar Brigadier-General Sir Percy M. Sykes who also wrote extensively on Persia.
