When published, this was the first work to present "all the riches of Persian architecture in a single volume." It follows the combination of form and embellishment that is the hallmark of Persian architecture, from works of the 6th century to the 18th-century Safavid mosques, including the splendid Masjid-i-Shah (Royal) Mosque in Isfahan.
