Sobre este artículo
American Tract Society, 150 Nassau-Street, New York, 1847; 12mo, 248 pages; no p.d. (circa 1847); embossed black cloth; gilt titles. Autobiography of early 19th century author, poet, journalist, and political activist Charlotte Elizabeth Tonna, née Browne (1790-1846) who, though never an ordained minister, was a zealous evangelist for Protestantism in both England and Ireland. Struck deaf at age nine, she became a pioneer in deaf education, and her 1844 book The Wrongs Of Woman was credited as being instrumental in the passage of worker safety regulations in Britain. Tonna’s works were widely popular during her lifetime, but often criticized as too political, something the author freely admitted, and for which she made no apology. The American Tract Society edition, published for American readers and abridged for extraneous British political content. VG-, 3/8" closed cloth tear upper portion of the spine panel, small chips at top spine extremity, some cloth wear along the shoulders, binding perfectly tight, sound and square, corners sharp, text crisp, no previous owner signatures, scattered light to moderate foxing.
