Previous owner's name and date 1962 written on pencil on front free endpaper, along with the words "First Edition" and a past price in pencil at upper right corner. Slight, irregular toning to front endpapers. Internal pages are clean and unmarked. Brandt's photos remain clear and vivid. Black and white dust jacket with titles in black and red on spine and front cover. Black and white photo on front cover, back cover blank. Jacket shows slight age toning. Price clipped. Top front edge is creased, with a 1/4" tear about an inch and a half in from the spine. and front fore-edge is split. Crease/crumple mark running about 3" from the bottom of the spine upward. New York: Amphoto, 1961. First U.S. edition. Hardcover. One of the classic photography books of the 20th century with a preface by Lawrence Durrell and an introduction by Chapman Mortimer. Brandt's nudes are as powerful and beautiful now as they were fifty years ago. A tight close to near fine copy in an about very good dust jacket with some chipping and edge tears to the spine ends and some tanning to the edges. Still, a nice copy. A fine copy in the photo-illustrated dust jacket that has a 1/2 inch closed tear on top edge and a tiny tear at the bottom edge of the blank rear panel; very light wear or darkening along the edges, and some waving due to the laminate pulling the printed paper, a fault in production. Brandt's most striking and original body of work.

Brandt was experimenting with a fish-eye lens and produced these extraordinary images of nudes on beaches, distorting and merging with the rocks which surround them. From the library of Sam Haskins.
