Sobre este artículo
[Lowell, James Russell] IL PESCEBALLO. Cambridge: Printed at the Riverside Press, 1862. First edition, third setting, on laid paper, with signature marks reset. Contemporary full black morocco, raised bands, marbled end papers, red edges. Printed in parallel texts in English and Italian. Fine copy of this extremely rare pamphlet, exceeded in rarity only by the offprint issue of MASON AND SLIDELL (In 1901 William Harris Arnold's copies of MASON AND SLIDELL and IL PESCEBALLO were among the highlights of the sale). This farcical operetta was written by Lowell to raise money for the United States Sanitary Commission during the Civil War. Copies were printed for distribution during the few evenings when it was performed, mostly for the amusement of his friends and fellow Harvard professors. Of the first setting only six copies survive: the Arnold-Maier-Wilson copy, the Wakeman copy, the Wallace-Chapin College copy, and three others. BAL 13107.
