New York: The Modern Library, 1929. The first novel by Van Vechten (1880-1964), a major figure as a supporter of the Harlem Renaissance, which details bohemian life in New York and Paris. Originally published in 1922; this is a Near Fine copy of the First Modern Liibrary Edition (stated). Red cloth binding; ruled; ML logo on front cover ingilt; gilt titling on the spine, with the grape-leaf decoration. Clean text; 247 pages; red topstain. Soft binding is very lightly bumped. A previous-owner has made penciled notes to the rear free endpaper. A nice little book.. First Thus. Hardcover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
