Uncommon in the trade in this state (First Edition, SIGNED) and condition, unformly Fine in a Good condition, simple sllipcase. SIGNED by the author at half-title of Volume I, inscribed as thus: "Inscribed with pleasure at the request of Alice D. Laughlin for Betty and Henry Isham. It should look well on one of those top shelves. Ledlie I. Laughlin." Comprises the standard reference work on the social history and manufacture of pewter in America. Augmented with 58 black-and-white plates. Special focus on the place of pewter of early Colonial America. Bound handsomely in a blue denim cloth over boards, very light brown cloth-backed, with abraded but lovely brown leather labels to spine, gilt lettering thereover. The volumes measure 13" high X 9 1/2" wide. Volume I: xvi [2], 1-138 [1] pp.; Volume II: [4], 2-241 pp. Illustrated with hundreds of photographs and illustrations on plates (29 to Volume I, and lix-lxxvii in Volume II, including two fine portraits at frontis, tissue-protected. Full appendixes, quote a number of untrimmed fore-edges, and a particularly bright and fresh appearance internally. They appear unread and unused. Focus on The Pewterers of Massachusetts Bay; The Rhode Island Pewterers; The Pewterers of the Connecticut Valley; Check List of American Makers of Pewter, Britannia, or Block Tin; Representative Inventories of American Pewter Shops.
