Second edition of the Pharmacopoée Lille, the first edition of which was published in 1640. Published under the auspices of the Senate of Lille, this precious production of the Lille presses was printed in folio format. It contains the detailed description of the medicinal substances ordered into fourteen classes which list successively the simple officinal materials (pp.1-52), simple and compound waters, spirits, tinctures, vinegars, juices and extracts (pp.53-66), honeys and syrups (pp.66-79), thick syrups, jams, pastes and preserves (pp.80-83), laxative electuaries (pp.84-88), antidotes and opiates (pp.89-96), alterative, aromatic and purgative spices (pp.97-102), pills, resins and extracts (pp.103-109), lozenges and tablets (pp.110-113), oils and balms (pp.114-121), ointments (pp.122-130), waxes and plasters (pp.131-142), the most common preparations of simple medicines (pp.143-146) and finally the most common spagyric medicines (pp.147-167). The book concludes with a detailed alphabetical table. Having become essential tools for ensuring the quality, efficacy and safety of medicines, as well as for facilitating international collaboration in the field of health, pharmacopoeias are recipe books for the preparation of medicines. Since ancient times, they have played an essential role in the study of medicinal plants and their properties by doctors and herbalists. As these practical works were mainly used in pharmaceutical pharmacies for the preparation of remedies, the copies are often stained and in poor condition, or even incomplete.
