1932. Susan Elizabeth Drake Sears married Richard Sears in 1913 and the couple lived in the Boston area. Photographs may be from the Boston environs, or the Hudson River area, as the album came from Millbrook NY and one photo is captioned "H. River."
157 vernacular snapshots all dating from the 1930's of what appears to be a family cottage. Captions are written in pencil alongside photos which are glued to the page, many photos detached. Captions include, 'House from cottage 1932-33', with same view dating 1922-23; West view , Round Garden, Round Garden W. End, Front Lawn, June 1935, Lilac Hedges, Rose Garden, Well, Back Terrace, Rock Garden, Court Garden, Terrace, Gravel Pit, Sea View, Long Walk, Herb Garden, Garage and cottage, River walk and birds, from out RSJ window(?), H River (?)
Very few images of people, although page 1 of the album has two, one of a woman sitting on the grass beneath a tree and looking left, another image of a woman dressed in coveralls with a large sun bonnet and kerchief. Another image of two men standing, and a woman seated on a bench on the Front Lawn; an image refers to Ruth G.; 3 dogs - "Rival" "Ruffles" and "Rex". Panorama of west view.
Signed on the front end paper, Susan E. Goelet Drake. The Society column of the Boston Sunday Post, November 30, 1913, records the marriage of Susan to Mr. Richard Sears of Mt. Vernon Street, Boston. With her bookplate.
Leather spine, flowered boards, string tied, black album pages, Most photographs 2 3/4 x 4 1/2" (133); 3 1/2 x 3 3/4" (4); 5 1/4 x 3 1/2" (5); 5 x 3 1/4" (8); 5 x 7" (3); 2 3/4 x 2" (4). Many photographs detached. Front cover partially detached but holding.
