Sobre este artículo

Mainz & Hamburg: bei Gottfried Vollmer,, 1801-05. First edition of these geographical treatises compiled from student transcripts of Kant's lectures at the University of Königsberg in 1778, 1782, and 1793. Vollmer's edition is among the earliest published appearances of material from Kant's geographical lectures. Kant was among the first scholars to include geography on a university curriculum, lecturing on the topic from 1756 to 1796 - virtually his entire academic career. In the view of a contemporary, "in these lectures Kant was all things to all men, and it was perhaps in them that he gained the most useful and powerful influence over the men of his time" (quoted in Chamberlain, p. 39). Scholars have emphasized the connection between Kant's physical geography and his broader critical philosophy - particularly regarding the concept of space. Despite Vollmer's use of student transcripts, Kant complained that his edition was unauthorized and illegitimate. The four volumes of Vollmer's edition were published in seven parts - all except the fourth volume being split in two. These were published across different years -for instance, the two parts of Vol. 2 were published in 1802 & 1803. Four volumes in 2, octavo (205 x 116 mm). Contemporary half sheep, smooth spines with ornamental bands and decorations tooled in blind, red and green paper labels, marbled paper sides and endpapers, edges red. Tables and divisional titles in the text. Vol. 4 lacking leaf A8 (pp. 15-16). Leaves **3 & 4 bound after **6 in Vol. 2, Part 2. Light bumping and rubbing, minor foxing and browning to contents: a very good set. Adickes 105; Warda 210. Houston Stewart Chamberlain, Immanuel Kant: A Study and a Comparison with Goethe, Leonardo Da Vinci, Bruno, Plato, and Descartes, 1914.
