Paris: Michel Levy Freres, 1854. The popular French playwright Emile Augier (1820-1889) wrote several plays in collaboration with Jules Sandeau (1811-1883). "The Touchstone" premiered on 23 December of 1853. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition, in a signed binding by Poustoux. Uncommon thus. Quarter-bound with marbled paper boards, spine and tips in green Morocco. Five raised bands and titling in gilt on the spine. Clean text; x, 110 pages, ribbon marker. Light spotting throughout, and with a contemoporary ink signature on Page One. Armorial bookplate of Helen Venetia Vincent on the front paste-dowm. Light rub to the margins, and a small abrasion on the front cover. The spine has faded to a dark brown. This remains very attractive book.. First Edition. Quarter-Bound. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
