Ellis Peters was one of many pseudonyms employed by English scholar/linguist Edith Pargeter, OBE, BEM. This is the tenth installment in her Brother Cadfael books, a popular historical mystery series about a sleuthing 10th century Benedictine monk. The Pilgrim of Hate establishes the plot at a celebration of St. Winifried, and the arrival of many pilgrims to Shrewsbury Abbey, including a rather dodgy duo whom Cadfael suspects might be involved in the recent slaying of a knight. In addition to many television, stage, and radio adaptations, "Brother Cadfael" has his very own English rose cultivar.
