Inscribed by the Author on the title page: "To Jessie and Joe,/ with love from/ Edith./ 'Ellis Peters'/ 1984". Jessie Hodgson (nee Edward) was Ellis Peters' first cousin. Ellis Peters' real name was Edith Mary Pargeter.
