Sobre este artículo
London: William John Johnson, 1861. 1st English ed. Hardcover. Fair. double-page map (tipped in along inner edge of page 12), 116p. Original printed boards, rather crudely rebacked with a strip of black leather. 17cm. Cover partially detached at title-page and also rather scuffed. Rear endpaper splitting along hinge. Large piece gone from bottom of front free endpaper which is partially attached to the front pastedown and partially to the title-page. Contents basically sound although lacking the frontis (a portrait of Campbell). Campbell's account of the Niger Valley Exploring Party (Campbell and *Martin R. Delany were the "Commissioners"). Delany wrote a separate report and stayed in America after his return and got involved in the Civil War. Campbell immigrated to Africa and became a prominent citizen in Lagos. This London edition contains a 4-page Introduction by Sir Culling E. Eardley which did not appear in the more common American edition.
