Attractive red cloth covered boards with drawing in black and white of lighthouse initialed J.C.D.on front board, lighthouse illustration also on spine. White debossed title on front. The pillar referred to in the title is a lighthouse with the story of the terrible dilemma of its cut-off inhabitants. Clean with corners bumped, rear lower corner scuffed, spine faded, spine head and heel raggedy. Rear board and spine cloth torn part way up rear side. Sewn binding intact, loosened at some leaves. Rough cut. Pages quite clean, no marks of any kind noted, lightly toned. 339 pages plus ads. 5.5 x 7.75 inches. 1904, Grosset & Dunlap, New York.
