Pirro Ligorio was an Italian architect, painter and antiquarian who was influential in the rediscovery of the architecture of ancient Rome and was Michelangelo's successor as chief architect of St. Peters after the latter's death. The present volume represents seven papers presented at the seminar held to commemorate the four-hundredth anniversary of his death and is the tenth title in th series for Italian Renaissance Studies published by the Harvard University Center.
