Signed wood-engraved print from 1990 by John DePol (1913-2004), a prolific book illustrator and master engraver of the 20th century. The print depicts a scene from The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe. It shows the narrator of the classic 1842 story being tormented during his imprisonment. Part of a DePol series commissioned for a 1991 limited edition book of 150 copies. This print was evidently part of a small overrun and was never bound into a book. Signed in pencil by DePol. Professionally matted and ready to frame. DePol has also written "Bowne/Poe 6/90 X2" in pencil in the margin. (Concealed under the ivory-color matting.) Matted size is 11 x 14 inches. Sheet size is 8.5 x 11 inches. Image is approx. 4.25 x 7 inches. Fine. We also have in stock another print from this series.
