From Preface to Second Edition: The time has come for an enlarged edition of this book because of the many instances of human and animal injury brought to my attention over the past ten years. In making necessary additions, I have tried to preserve the simple, non-technical character of the book as an identification guide for healthcare professionals, schools and the public in general. No attempt has been made to expand its coverage beyond the state of Florida, though much of it is applicable in all the states of the Union and abroad because of the world wide distribution of many of these toxic plants as houseplants or greenhouse ornamentals and some being widely scattered as weeds. It has been my hope that, with the many educational efforts throughout the country, the problem of plant poisoning would diminish...
