Hardcover. 8vo, 21.5cm, 2nd edition, xxvii,253,(2)pp., ads, in contemporary half calf, gilt ruled raised bands, small blind decorations in the panels, gilt spine titles, marbled boards, front hinge inexpertly but solidly repaired, good to very good copy (ds1). - Crabbe (1754-1832), an English poet, escaped extreme poverty through the financial assistance of Edmund Burke. The present edition includes "The Village" and "The Parish Record" (first published in 1808) and "The Library" . His poetry was praised by the likes of Edmund Burke, Samuel Johnson and Sir Walter Scott. His long dedication includes a letter of approbation from Samuel Johnson.
