Graced with 19 contemporary documents, this first, illustrated edition establishes Ephelia as an authentic, well connected writer in the London literary scene of the 1670s and '80s. In a long essay and six appendices, the author sheds new light on Ephelia's writings, fraternal and sororal circles, patronal link to the Villiers familyand offferss evidence from the 'Ephelia' texts and from contemporary sources to show that the most likely candidate is Mary Villiers (1622-1685). Searches involved conventiaonal routes, and travels on such specialized paths as heraldry watermarks, genealogy, handwriting, and portraiture." from the jacket flap.
