Volume 1 contains a preface to both the first and second edition of the poems, with some amendments and additions. Outer front hinge is cracked but remains sound. Good minus with wear to all edges. The "Essays" feature Dana's review of the works of contemporaries such as Hawthorne and Charles Brockton Brown, and other reflections on law and life. Volume 2 has some loose signatures, a few page soiled but the brown tooled original binding is in good condition, rubbed at head and heel with a few minor chips. This set is from the library of Julia French (Eliot) Hamilton, wife of Charles Hamilton, grandson of Alexander. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
