A complete five volume set of the Poetical Works of Edmund Spencer, bound across two volumes. The first volumes contains volumes one to three and the second four to five. Edmund Spenser was an English poet best known for his epic poem The Faerie Queen which appears in these volumes. the fantastical allegorical poems celebrates the Tudor dynasty of Elizabeth I. The Faerie Queen spans the first four volumes. Other works that appear in volumes four and five include The Shepherd's Calendar, The Ruins of Time and The Tears of the Muses. These works also include a memoir and critical dissertation with the text edited by Charles Cowden Clarke. Bound by James Bell. Undated, dated from Jisc. In half calf binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with marks to the boards and splitting to the tail of the front joint to volume one and with the rear hinge starting and remaining generally firm. Some rubbing to the spines. Internally, firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages. Good
