These two volumes represent the complete poetical works of Edmund Waller (1606-1687) and are numbered 26 and 27 on the spine. Waller's adoption of smooth, regular versification paved the way for the heroic couplet's emergence by the end of the 17th century as the dominant form of poetic expression.
