Eugene Muse Mitchell (1866-1944) was born in Atlanta in 1866 to Russell Crawford Mitchell and Deborah Margaret Sweet. He graduated from the University of Georgia law school in 1886. He was an Atlanta attorney, co-founder of the Atlanta Historical Society, and father of Stephens Mitchell and Margaret Mitchell author of Gone With the Wind.
