Sobre este artículo
Edinburgh: Charles Black, 1882. Leather. Fine. 10.5" by 7.5". None. An illustrated collection of the poetry of Sir Walter Scott, in a lovely full morocco armorial binding. This is a prize copy, awarded by the College of Preceptors, whose crest it bears. It was awarded to Mervyn Bruce Grace for general proficiency in 1906. Sir Walter Scott is one of the best known and most popular Victorian authors. He was Scottish, and served a long term as President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He was also a member of the Highland Society. Very much a member of the establishment, he met both Blacklock and Burns while at University. His genius for storytelling, however, perhaps came from his earlier life with his aunt on the Scottish Borders, where he absorbed the oral traditions of the country. This is his complete poetical corpus in one volume. With 23 beautiful engrave plates, and a fold out facsimile of the author's handwriting. In a full morocco armorial binding. Externally excellent, with just a little rubbing around the head of the spine and to the edges. With a prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, a little spotted to the first and last few pages as usual, but otherwise with only the odd spot here and there throughout. Firmly bound. Fine
