The compilation of American poetry containing the poems of many iconic American poets first published and translated into Russian by M. Zenkevich and I. Kashkin. As follows from the compilers' introductory, the collection focuses mainly on the period between 1910 and 1930 that was marked by the dawn of American proletarian poetry movement. It icludes translations of poems by Edvin Arlington Robinson, Carl Sandburg, Vaclel Lindsay, Robert Frost, Edgar Lee Masters, John Gould Fletcher, Hilda Doolittle, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Elinor Wylie, William Carlos Williams, Ernest Walch, Alphred Kreymborg, Louis Untermeyer, Robinson Jeffers, Archibald Mac-Leish, Ernest Hemingway, Michael Gold, Joseph Kalar, A.B. Magil. There are also included ballads and songs by Joe Hill, One-Finger Ellis, Eduard O'Connor, Aunt Molly Jackson, Ben Lucien Burman, Lawrence Gellert, County Cullen, Sterling A. Brawn, Langston Hugles. In addition to translations, the book contains compilers' critical forewords, authors' portraits and biographical sketches.
Mikhail Alexandrovich Zenkevich (1886-1973) - Russian poet and translator, his special interest was American poets, many of whom he first introduced to Russian readers.
Ivan Aleksandrovich Kashkin (1899-1963) - literary critic, the most important translation theorist and the first Soviet translator of Hemingway.
Aleksandr Petrovich Radishchev (1898-1978) - graphic artist, great-great-grandson of philosopher Alexander Nikolayevich Radishchev.
