Howes writes that the work is "of superlative California importance." Wagner-Camp 7a:5; Howes H786; Sabin 33715. Translated from the original French by John Black. Old gift-sticker from E.C. Whittemore to the Waterville Historical Society and with their stamp on one of the page edges in the text. Approx. 5 1/4" x 8 1/2" size; bound in full polished tree-calf leather; spines with gilt titles and simple line-rules. Some edge, tips wear & rubbing to the boards; some foxing & spotting; a few leaves chipped at edges, one with a careless imposition of the type by the printer. in good condition. .
