Eiffel"" Ce portrait saisissant du magicien du fer fut réalisé l'année de l'inauguration de sa tour éponyme. Erigée à l'occasion de l'Exposition Universelle de Paris, elle était la plus haute structure bâtie du monde à l'époque, dominant le paysage parisien de ses 300 mètres de haut. On doit également à Eiffel la conception de la structure de la Statue de la Liberté. Un autre tirage de ce portrait est conservé à la National Portrait Gallery de Londres. Signed and inscribed by the engineer to lower right corner of mount: ""Au Camarade Richard Souvenir du banquet du 22 Nbre [18]89 G. Eiffel"" (To fellow comrade Richard Souvenir of the banquet from 22 November [18]89 G. Eiffel) This striking portrait of the engineering legend was shot in the year of the tower's inauguration. Built on the occasion of the Paris Universal Exhibition, it was the tallest man-made structure at the time, towering 300 meters over the Parisian landscape. Eiffel is also responsible for designing the iron structure of the Statue of Liberty. Another print of this portrait is kept at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
