The two volumes contain portraits of famous Englishman of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including Queen Elizabeth, Cardinal Wolsey, John Knox, Sir Philip Sidney, Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh, Francis Bacon, John Selden, George Monk, Duke of Albemarle, Sir Matthew Hale, , &c.
