Sobre este artículo

London: The Westminster Press, Limited, 1912. Cloth. Very Good. 11" by 8.5". Franks Reynolds. A colourfully illustrated copy of Charles Dickens' 'The Pickwick Papers', illustrated throughout by Frank Reynolds. 'The Pickwick Papers' was Dickens' first novel. Originally written in a serial form, the work is a sequence of loosely related adventures in 1827-8. The leader of the 'Pickwick Club' decides that he and his fellows should go and explore places remote from London, and to report their findings. Charles Dickens is one of the most popular authors of the Victorian age. His novels show the grimy side of poverty and prosperity in Victorian England, showing poor social conditions alongside repulsive characters. Illustrated by Frank Reynolds. Reynolds was a British artist who also illustrated editions of 'David Copperfield', and 'The Old Curiosity Shop', and well as contributing illustrations to 'Punch', 'The Illustrated London News', and 'London Magazine. With a colour frontispiece, and nineteen colour plates. Undated, dated from WorldCat. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light fading to the spine and to the front boards. Minor marks to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only the very occasional light spot. Very Good

Sinopsis

The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club  (commonly known as  The Pickwick Papers ) is the first novel published by Charles Dickens.  The Posthumous Papers Of The Pickwick Club  catapulted the 24-year-old author to immediate fame. Readers were captivated by the adventures of the poet Snodgrass, the lover Tupman, the sportsman Winkle &, above all, by that quintessentially English Quixote, Mr. Pickwick, & his cockney Sancho Panza, Sam Weller. From the hallowed turf of Dingley Dell Cricket Club to the unholy fracas of the Eatanswill election, via the Fleet debtor’s prison, characters & incidents sprang to life from Dickens’s pen, to form an enduringly popular work of ebullient humor & literary invention The novel was published in 19 issues over 20 months by Chapman and Hall, London in 1836.  After the publication the widow of illustrator Robert Seymour claimed that the idea for the novel was originally her husband's; however, in his preface to the 1867 edition, Dickens strenuously denied any specific input, writing that "Mr. Seymour never originated or suggested an incident, a phrase, or a word, to be found in the book.
