It is an effort to open discussion about the unique experience of Native Americans and offers a concise reference for administrators, educators, students and community leaders involved with Indian education. Vine Deloria Jr. is a Standing Rock Sioux. A retired professor of political science at the University of Arizona and a retired professor of history at the University of Colorado. He is a former executive director of the National Congress of American Indians. He was named by Time magazine as one of the eleven most influential religious thinkers in the twentieth century. Daniel R. Wildcat is a Yuchi member of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma. He is co-director of the Haskell Environmental Research Studies Center and American Indian Studies faculty member at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas.
