Sobre este artículo

New York City, NY: Pantheon Books, 2001. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Pantheon Books, 2001. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 490 pages. Retrospective collection of interviews, brilliantly transcribed as final written texts. The single most accessible - and illuminating - introduction to the life and thought of Edward Said. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Edward Said's "Power, Politics, And Culture: Interviews With Edward W. Said". Three decades' worth of brilliant and inspiring advocacy on behalf of ideas, passions, and causes. Individually and collectively, these twenty-eight interviews document "the eloquent and unique voice of a fascinating figure, gathered by Gauri Viswanathan, from publications here and in Europe, India, Pakistan, the Arab world, and Israel. Said addresses an extraordinary range of subjects. The passion he feels for literature, music, history, and politics is powerfully conveyed. Includes Said's views on the role of the critic in society, the origins of Orientalism, musical performance, the importance of teaching, Glenn Gould, Giambattista Vico, Joseph Conrad, Theodor Adorno, the Gulf War, Israel, the Oslo peace accords, the future of Palestine, political correctness, censorship, Saddam Hussein, and the idea of national identity" (Publisher's blurb). "Among the truly important intellects of our century" (Nadine Gordimer). An absolute "must-have" title for Edward Said collectors. This title is a great collection. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws (because they were pored over) or are subsequent printings. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. One of the greatest literary and political writer/thinkers of the 20th century and our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER EDWARD W. SAID TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0375421076.
