Sobre este artículo

Los Angeles: American Eugenics Party, 1960. The American Eugenics Party (AEP) was an obscure, pseudo-scientific white supremacist group based in California during the 1960s. Samuel Andrisani was the group's primary spokesman, although John S. Vanders is listed as the group's Public Relations Manager on one of the items. In 1967, Andrisani, whose title was Education Manager, ran for Los Angeles Board of Education #2 and his bizarre campaign platform is included. One of the group's most notorious pieces of propaganda was a pamphlet titled "The Ugliest Race," (included here) in which black physiognomy is described in detail. The AEP states, "The negro is shown to be THE UGLIEST RACE because negroes do not approach the hereditarily based universal beauty and function standards. The negro appearance violates the Universal Beauty Law." Decades later, the pamphlet was included in a court case exhibition charging the Duluth Public Schools Academy in Duluth, MN with racism against its black students.

The 14 items included in this collection appear to be the bulk (if not all) of the group's output and we find no reference to their activities past the 1960s. Not to be confused with the early 20th century group with the same name based in New York City. Items include:

American Eugenics Party Platform. Printed on both sides of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet. 15-point platform that addresses the group's stance on racial purity, the role of women, pollution, combat sports, economics, religion, etc.

Open letter to "Intelligent Americans." Printed recto only on a 14" x 8 ½" sheet. Warns of the "negro crime rate and population increase" and the need for racism to be "upgraded." Describes black as "ugly-appearing, foul-smelling, criminally-inclined subhumans [who] do not have the hereditary traits to maintain a civilization." Folds from mailing.

The Uglist Race. A single sheet folded in thirds (11" x 8 ½"), 6 p., one illustration. Described above.

An open letter to Ed Fields and J. B. Stoner of the National States Rights Party. Printed on both sides of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet. Criticizes the NSRP's obsessive hatred of Jews and their mischaracterization of Arabs as right-wing. Encourages the group to alter their policy since their position "regarding the Jews not only aids communist mongrelizers but causes disunity among racists."

Membership Application. Two applications printed on recto of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet.

Spectrum of Political Platforms. Printed on the recto of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet. Table showing the American Eugenics Party's position on a spectrum of other racists and eugenicists.

White Defective Segregationists Threaten Civilization. A single sheet folded (11" x 8 ½"), 4 p. A 15-point argument differentiating between the White Defective and White Non-defective Segregationists, with the latter acting as the "primary guardians of civilization."

Samuel Andrisani's 10-point campaign platform for the Los Angeles Board of Education. Printed recto of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet.

Undemocratic Supreme Court. Printed on recto of 14" x 8 ½" sheet. Accuses the Supreme Court of being an "unelected, legislative entity, selected by partisan politicans" with a "equalitarian interpretation of the Constitution."

Nordic Supremacy Myth. Single sheet folded (11" x 8 ½"), 4 p. Refutes the notion that Nordics are the superior caucasian type and accuses Nordicists of "mishandling Eugenic Principles."

Negro Birth Rate Danger. Printed recto of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet. Argues for Negro birth controls lest they become a "burden to caucasian countries with world commitments."

Eugenics and History. A single sheet folded in thirds (11" x 8 ½"), 6 p. Differentiates between the Eugenic Interpretation of History, the Economic Interpretation of History and the Free Will Interpretation of History.

Scientific Racists. Printed recto of an 11" x 8 ½" sheet. A 10-point differentiation between scientific and unscientific racists. "Scientific racists preserve Caucasian Unity so as to further Eugenic Progress, whereas Unscientific Racists promote policies causing Caucasian Disunity which holds back Eugenics."

Role of Women in Society. A single sheet folded (11" x 8 ½"), 4 p. "The American Eugenics Party believes that women are more and more deviating from their proper role in society. As a result of wrong reforms, women have been taken out of one improper role and placed into another improper role."

Most items have the stamp of Laird Wilcox or the Wilcox Collection. The material appears to have been initially issued a stapled packet as there are staple holes to the top corners. Otherwise fine.
