Sobre este artículo

Harper & Brothers. New York. 1947. Black cloth boards with Harper's blind stamp on front board and gilt lettering to spine. Map endpapers. Bump on front board, top and bottom of spine bumped. First edition (stated) with correct B-X printer's (month/year) code. Inscribed by author on verso of the flyleaf. Unclipped ($3.75) jacket has 1 inch closed tear on top of rear, small chipping on edges and a five inch closed linear tear on front of spine. Jacket now protected with removable mylar cover. Included is a Memorandum from the desk of Turner Catledge that references this copy being gifted to Elaine. Mr. Catledge was an American journalist for the New York Times and managing editor from 1952-1964. Mr. Baldwin (1903-1991) was an American journalist and long-time military editor of the New York Times. During WW II Baldwin wrote about the South Pacific, North Africa and Europe. His dispatches from Guadalcanal the Western Pacific won him the Pulitzer in 1943. "Now that science and technology are perfecting the atom bomb, the biological germ, drone planes and missiles remotely controlled to deliver them to their targets, total war - if war comes- is inevitable." (jacket flap). Interesting, writing about drone planes and remotely controlled missiles in 1947. Book contains extensive Bibliography, Index and Appendix listing U.S. military strengths (1), U.S. and Russian mineral resources (2), Effects of Atomic Bombs (3), Biological warfare (4) and Estimated reserves of U.S. raw materials (5). 5.75x8.5 in. 361 pg.
