CONROY’S MOST FAMOUS BOOK, considered by many as a masterpiece of the 1980s. The film, produced in 1991, was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture. While the film was a box office hit and raised Barbara Streisand's reputation as a director, its numerous changes from the original novel upset many Conroy purists.
