Sobre este artículo
Paris: L'Édition D'Art H. Piazza, 1914. First edition in French. Limited to 500 numbered copies signed by the artist, this being copy 347. A handsomely restrained binding, ca. 1914, by Georges Levitsky (stamp-signed) in three-quarter antelope brown morocco with gilt rules over marbled paper boards. Original wrappers preserved. Ten mounted color plates within decorative borders. Housed in the binder's morocco- edged custom slipcase. A superb and very Fine copy.
With decorations not found in the English language editions, including nine designs of a different small tree in an urn on pages preceding each chapter; decorated initials at start of each chapter; seven tailpieces; two surrounds for for letterpress on limitation and colophon. The binder, Ukraine-born (1885) and trained, Georges Levitsky emigrated to Paris in 1907 and set up his own shop in 1910. His clients included King Albert I of Belgium and King Alexander I of Serbia, producing what would evolve into a "dynamic and resourceful" style (Duncan & Debartha).
