In brown publisher's cloth, blindstamped on both boards, titled in gilt on spine; plain endpapers; xvi [17]-417, [3]pp; 2pp of ads. Ownership inscription of Benjamin Frost to f.f.e.p.; bookplate of Herbert Porter to pastedown. Tight and unfaded, but somewhat cocked, with rubbing and losses to head and tail; some cloth along the lower left board lifting; old dampstaining to upper corner of pp. 1-24 and f.f.e.p.; old dealer description attached to rear f.e.p. with cellotape; some browning and occasional spots of foxing: nevertheless, a sturdy copy: Good or better.

In 1841, while attempting to free the slaves of a R.N. Woolfolk, abolitionists George Thompson, James E. Burr, and Alanson Work were arrested, charged for grand larceny, and sentenced to hard labor. Of the three men, Thompson would serve the longest, released after five years. LCP AFRO-AMERICANA 10222.
