In brown publisher's cloth, blindstamped on both boards, titled in gilt on spine; plain endpapers; xvi [17]-417, [3]pp; 2pp of ads. Ownership inscription of Benjamin Frost to f.f.e.p.; bookplate of Herbert Porter to pastedown. Tight and unfaded, but somewhat cocked, with rubbing and losses to head and tail; some cloth along the lower left board lifting; old dampstaining to upper corner of pp. 1-24 and f.f.e.p.; old dealer description attached to rear f.e.p. with cellotape; some browning and occasional spots of foxing: nevertheless, a sturdy copy: Good or better.
In 1841, while attempting to free the slaves of a R.N. Woolfolk, abolitionists George Thompson, James E. Burr, and Alanson Work were arrested, charged for grand larceny, and sentenced to hard labor.
