The covers of the book have bumping, rubbing edge wear and some lightish fraying. The spine of the book has a light slant. There are several spots of ground-in dirt, including a roundish patch to the front panel. The text pages are generally clean and bright, though with some occasional spots of foxing throughout. There is an inked previous owner's name and date on the front endpaper and a neatly cut out and pasted down portion of the front dust jacket flap which includes the explanatory blurb. The rear endpapers have some spots of foxing and ground-in dirt. "Alfred Edward Woodley Mason (7 May 1865 Dulwich, London – 22 November 1948 London) was an English author and politician. He is best remembered for his 1902 novel of courage and cowardice in wartime, The Four Feathers and is also known as the creator of Inspector Hanaud, a French detective who was an early template for Agatha Christie's famous Hercule Poirot.
