Sobre este artículo
London: Edward Allde, 1593. 8th Edition. Limp vellum. 4to, 19.3 cm.; [vi], 164, [viii], 92pp., illust.; Lacking title page to first section, all else complete; significant conservation treatment with infill on both the cover and within the text block, very minimal loss of text to foot of p.90., unidentified hide cover with repaired losses, original side stab binding with top two cords repaired; darkening to two knot garden designs; presented in custom clamshell box. Recognized as the first English gardening book as well as the first English book on bees. This copy with numerous 16th/17th C. ms. annotations to the margins as well as to the inside covers. First appearing in ca. 1558 under the title "A most briefe and pleasante treatise, teachying how to dresse, sowe and set a garden" Hyll improved and enlarged the text in 1563 and in 1568 changed the title to "The profitable arte of gardening..." , which included the seperately titled treatise on bees, as well as the treatise on grafting and planting of trees, both extant here. The section on trees was lifted from Richard Arnold's, 'Chronicle' and the Bee section was heavily borrowed, if not outright translated, from 'Pantoplion' by G. Pictorious. The text remained substantially similar until its final edition in 1608. A conserved copy of this very important work. (IBRA, Fussell, Henrey, Rohde).
