Small folio, manuscript, 30 ffnch on vellum, text in Spanish, 2 paper seals including one in gold embossed paper (very small worm gallery on the last 2 ff).
Full contemporary blond sheepskin binding, covers framed with gilt casters and spandrels, covers held by two green and gold silk laces, yellow silk endpapers.
Original manuscript produced by Don Juan Alfonso de Guerra y Sandoval, judge at arms and knight of the Order of Santiago de la Espada ("Orden of Santiago"), a religious and military order founded in the 12th century. It certifies the titles of nobility of the Catalan family Clota y Texidor whose arms it deciphers.
Magnificently illustrated with two large, richly water-colored plates, the first giving the large coat of arms of the family, the second the name of the author and the armorial seal in a spectacular cartouche. The document is countersigned by Don Diego de Olidem, Secretary to the King and the City Council (Ayutamento) of Madrid.
The certificate traces the four quarters of nobility of this family and gives, for each quarter, the corresponding coat of arms, thus explaining the constitution of the shield on the first page of the book.
