Two hundredth thousand of the Bijou Edition of this work, in a full calf binding. All edges gilt. Ink inscription to the first blank page, dated 1869. Frontispiece depicting the author. Martin Farquhar Tupper (1810-1889) was an English writer and poet. His Proverbial Philosophy met at first with only moderate success. By 1867, however, it had passed through forty large editions in Britain, while nearly a million copies were sold in the United States. In a full calf binding. Externally smart, with rubbing to the extremities, and rubbing and fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean apart from some spotting to the first and last few pages. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
